The Federal Reserve released its 2025 Survey of Consumer Finances on October 9, 2026. Inflation-adjusted median family net worth increased 2% between the 2022 and 2025 surveys, reaching $215,900.

Median family income rose 7% to $82,200. Income is measured for the calendar year before each survey, so that comparison covers 2021 and 2024, rather than income earned in October 2026.

The share of families whose debt payments exceeded 40% of income increased from 6.5% to 8.6%. The findings show that improving assets and growing pressure on household payments can occur together.
